File and Disk Drive Sharing between Computers
Dear Sir or Madame:I am trying to connect two computers, Which I have named System A and System B. Both computers and a Westel Wirespeed DSL modem are connected to an Asus WL-520GU wireless/wired router by means of LAN ethernet cables. An HP PSC 2355 printer is connected to the router by means of a USB cable. The onboard LAN's of both computers automatically configure to the IP addresses of the form 192.168.x.x, which, I believe, work. However there is no connectivity between the two computers, Systems A and B. They do not see each other's shared disk drives and files. The operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002 with Service Pack 3, No. 76477-OEM-0015717-31545.When I ran the ipconfig program on each computer one specification said that the IP routing is not enabled. See configuration below. Must the IP routing be enabled in order to have connectivity? How is IP routing enabled in Windows XP? In the Services section of the Control Panel there are the Routing and Remote Access, which is disabled and other networking related services, some of which are also disabled. Which services must be enabled in order for the computers to connect to share files and disk drives?Windows IP ConfigurationHost Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : SYSTEM-APrimary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : MixedIP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : NoWINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : NoEthernet adapter Up-Dock Local Area Connection:Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :Description . . . . . . . . . . . : ADMtek ADM8511 USB To Fast EthernetConverterPhysical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-50-5B-00-0A-4BDhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : YesAutoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : YesIP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.168.237.161.12 Regards Peter Dooling1 person got this answerI do too
