File sharing in Vista -64bit
I have 2 VISTA -64 bit machines. I am trying to share the entire disk (C: drive)in each. Each machine has 1 user(Admin) account of the same name, they are identified as "Name-DellPC" and "Name-Studio". Norton Internet Security has been removed from both. I have followed the Technet article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx. I can access the Public folders on each machine, printer sharing is working, but when I try to access the C drive, I ger a message of "Windows cannot access \\Name-DellPC\C check the spelling of the name... If "Diagnose" is selected, I get a message that " "C" is available but the user account that you are logged on with was denied access"It goes on to say to check that spelling,, etc is correct. This happens on either system.Everything in the Network and Security has been double checked.I am just baffled and hope someone can tell me what stupid this is wrong. I never had this much trouble with XP

It is not recommended that the C drive (usually the system drive) is shared but you obviously have reasons to share it. So, click the Windows Orb (Start), type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter, then right-click the drive graphic > Properties > Sharing Tab > Advanced Sharing > tick Share this folder and type in a Share Name > Apply > OK. Now go to the Security Tab > Edit > Add then type Everyone (not the quotes) > Check Names > OK and below it select your preferences, e.g. Full Control, etc. > Apply > Reply Yes to any security message > Keep pressing OK to any deny messages > OK, etc. to finish.

Sorry for the delay, too many personal problems. One matter needs clarification to me, When Advanced Sharing is selected, the box for "Share Name" shows a "C". Is that enough for a share name or should it be more? Should the identical name be used for both PCs or should they reflect the PC name?

I would give it a meaningful name that is instantly recognised when listed.
