Firewall/Security Services not started : error 1068 i think - dependent on some device on something?
I have two identical computers running on broadband, one the security center is working w/firwal, malware, etc everything working; the other says the Security Service was stopped or not started; asks if want to start (yes/no) click Yes, then msg cannot start dependence on some device or something; Error 1068 i believe. so, cannot turn Firewall on (same msg), change settings or anything. think someone may have tried to do something and messed it up. i am admin with multiple limited users on community pc. just installed Micro Security Essentials (on both pc's). only one has this problem-virtually the same in software & hardware.any help??1 person got this answerI do too

Mowgreen:ok, 1058. so ? how do i turn on security service for computer?? dont know why or how it was turned off. this service is automatically part of Windows XP so when it is installed it is ON. the only thing or control should beturning Firewall ON/OFF. But cannot turn firewall on or off because security service is disabled. now, Microsoft Security Essentials sometimes turns off firewall because it does the same thing. However, you can access thefirewall. In this problem, you cannot and the message is different. Security Service is not disabled. So, what i needto know is how to turn service on(Sec Service), how can it be disabled? What device are the messages talking about? Does anyone know? Without restoring Windows, is there a solution?thanksNeo

There is a Security Center service in Windows XP, there is no 'security service'.Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) does not Disable the native XP firewall and it does not have a firewall. In most cases the disabling of Security Center and XP's native Windows Firewall is caused by the improper removal of the previously installed antivirus/security suite or there may be hidden malware resident. The article I previously linked you to tells you how to associate the current hardware profile to all running services of XP -Service does not start and displays "Error 1058"What is the specific message you are seeing when you try to start the Security Center service ?Strongly suggest that you first run this Kaspersky detection and removal tool to see if there is hidden malware resident on the affected system -How to remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS (aka Tidserv, TDSServ, Alureon)Which antivirus/security suite or 3rd party firewall was previously installed on the affected system ?You can try to reenable the Security Center service by running a file (wscvs.reg) found here, which also works with Windows XP SP 3 -How to restore the missing "Security Center" service in Windows XP SP2?BUT, if there's hidden malware resident or the previously installed AV or 3rd party was not properly removed, then the issue will occur again.MowGreen Windows Expert IT Pro - Consumer Security
