Formatting a floppy A disk? Not sure whre to post.
Hi.I bought a Floppy A drive. Call me old school or whatever you will. I'm going to do a system build soon. What do I format the disks into? I have my reasons for the floppy drive in case you ask. XP needs it for AHCI drivers for my motherboard for one - upon my re-install. I can also update my bios if needed. Since I do music, there are legacy instruments that use floppy drives to store the MIDI or other information, etc. When I insert the disks, how do I format them? Can I NTFS them? Will they be read? I assume it would be fat16 or fat32 or something. With older equimpent, I would assume they can't recognize NTFS or the disks may not even work if it's possible if I only use them within windows OS's. Is there any documentation I should check out? I just don't know where to look, or for what.1 person needs an answerI do too

I haven't used floppy disks for a long time. As I recall, they're formatted at the factory. If not, right-click the floppy disk drive and click Format . The only file system choice is FAT .Boulder Computer Maven Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

Perhaps because I use an NNTP bridge, ratherthan post directly to the forum web site, I don't always see whatsomeone else has already posted. If I see that someone else hasalready said what I am about to post, I usually keep my mouth shut.On the other hand, it doesn't always hurt for two of us to post thesame thing. It makes it easier for the OP to believe what someone saysif two people say the same thing. Ken Blake (MS MVP)
