Forward Requests to a Public IP
Please accept my apologies if it is not the correct forum to ask this kind of question but i could not find any related to my query. I need my windows 7 pc to forward connections requests like ICMP or RDP for a private network 192.168.101.0 to a public ip on the internet. I am behind a DSL Router and my PC Lan IP is 192.168.1.2. Is it possible without configuring anything on my DSL Router? Thanks!

If you want to forward connection request for windows 7, you configure dsl router and windows 7 firewall rules. in dsl router, you use DMZ option or port forwarding.Using DMZ option, all trafic from internet, forward to windows 7 (it is not recomended). Using Port fprwarding option, you can forward port (i.e: RDP - port 3389) you want.

My requirement is opposite . I need to connect my pc to an internal network which is behind a router. I think only VPN Tunnels can do it which is not possible in windows. Is it correct? Thanks!

Yes, you don't need to configure anything on your router. By default the router allows all outgoing. You are also correct to use RDP over VPN. If the remote site doesn't have VPN server, you may need to do port forwarding on the remote router.Bob Lin, MS-MVP Networking, Internet, Routing, VPN Troubleshooting on http://www.ChicagoTech.net How to Setup Windows, Network, VPN & Remote Access on http://www.howtonetworking.com
