Free space discrepency
Hi, We've got several Windows 7 64 (Professional, soon to be upgraded to Enterprise) which are showing disk space descrepencies. They're setup with 100GB C partitions and they keep filling up. VSS/system restore is off and VSS reports 0 bytes used, I've checked all temp folders aren't full, even adding up all folders on C drive (including inside system volume information and boot, and hidden/system files) doesn't equal what explorer reports as being used. Here's a screenshot of the problem http://i.imgur.com/f4IbQ.png. There's a 64.4GB discrepency. I've run scandisk, which freed 6GB, then I installed SP1, which took up another 8ish. It should probably be noted that all the system we've seen this on so far are machines with 3 disks in RAID 0 running on Intel integrated RAID controllers. Any ideas where my free space is going?

This is because you do not have elevated permission to check all files if you query with that way. If you would like to clear the disk drive, you may show all hidden files and query them one by one. For special folders such as SystemVolumeInformation, you need to take the ownership and then open and check it. Has logging been enabled for performance or trace? Are you creating data sets without an end?

I did check inside system volume information (I took ownership), the used space above was including it, boot, recovery, recycle bin etc.

No I'm not. The problem is not that I can't see what is creating the data on the drive, the problem is that everything on the drive only appears to add up to about 30% of the space explorer is reporting as used.
