Get 169 IP Address when trying to connect to Internet
I’ve a PC running Windows XP Pro with SP 3. It’s connecting directly to the cable modem. About two weeks ago, it stopped connecting to the Internet. I’ve tried the following:· Replacing the cable modem and network cable· Updating the network drivers· Replacing the network card· Shut down the firewall· Run ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew· Reset the TCP/IP connections by running the netsh command· Run the netrepair command for Winsock· Restoring the system from several system restore points· Running system restore from Safe Mode· Running the Microsoft FixIt solution· Deleting and restoring the Winsock registry settings and reinstalling the TCP/IP protocolI’ve even checked the registry settings and they all seem to be correct. However, the PC still can’t connect to the Internet. It gets a 169 IP address every time this PC tries to connect. A laptop I brought home has no problems connecting. Are there other options that I could try? What should be my next steps?1 person needs an answerI do too

HiIf you do not have a Router and you are connected directly to a Modem.Call you are ISP. without a router it is their system that suppose to assign you an IP.169.xx.xx.xx is Windows defualt IP when the network does not assign an IP.BTW, security wise it is a mistake to sit directly on the Internet even with One computer.Routers are very inexpensive, get yourself one. You will have better security, and more stable Internet connection. Jack-MVP Windows Networking. WWW.EZLAN.NET
