Going greener, waking computers on RDP sessions?
I just read an post about Remote desktop. I hear they can wake up Windows 7 with a simple RDP connection. However I have now tested this on our computers. And I wonder why it's not working. We have HP xw6600 workstations and other brands. We have enabled Wake on lan (I think). We are currently getting pushed by some green initiatives to have sleep mode activated on our computers whilst this comes in conflict with users trying to work from home using RDP. Do anybody have any information concerning Remote Wake Up vs Wake on LAN? What Network Cards should I buy to get this feature? Or is it a BIOS only feature?

Hi, The lan network card must have it build in and then enabled on motherboard. Computer also must be plugged in at mains power supply. This has been used in the past to install OS on computers that had none. Now it is used mainly for remote desktop to wake a computer thats switched off. Hi,
As I know, to remote to a computer which is not running, we may need to Wake it first, such as use Wake on Lan; then, after the computer statrs up, we can estabilsh the remote desktop connection.
For your question about which NIC supports Wake on Lan, please refer to the section “System requirements” of the page Wake-on-LAN.
