Group Policy - NET USE doesnt work after initial logon
Hello everyone, I have a domain enviroment with Server 2003 as the domain controler, Active Directory, and Various Windows OS's (XP, Vista, and 7; 32-bit and 64-bit) for the client machines. Here is my setup... I have a GPO setup that is designed to run a .bat file at logon. This .bat file copies shortcuts from a server to the users desktop and maps various network drives using NET USE. All users that have this GPO processed receive the same mapped network drives with /PERSISTENT:NO. The GPO is only enabled for specific uses, and those users only have Windows 7 64-bit. And the problem... The first time a user logs on to a computer (meaning they have never logged onto that computer before), the script runs as expected. However, if the user logs off the computer and logs back on, or they go home for the day and come back to their computer and logon the following day, the desktop shortcuts DO get copied (and overwritten since they already exist), but the mapped drives never show up in My Computer and they can not be navigated to using the mapped drive letter. The CMD prompt that is invoked via the .bat file shows that the NET USE command completed successfully. Originally, the .bat was run from the NETSHARE folder, but in my troubleshooting attempts, I have the .bat file copied to the local computer and run locally via GPO from the server. If I run the .bat file manually after logging on, the script runs as expected (even after failing during the logon process). I have tried changing it to a .vbs file to map the network drives, but no dice. All the computers that the GPO enabled users are working on are Windows 7 64-bit systems are in different counties and are connected to the server via site-to-site VPN. It seems that the computers that are on the physical LAN with the server, do not have this issues, but then again, they are running primarily XP and Vista, and very few accounts at that office have any GPO's setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been pulling hair out for a few weeks now. Thanks! :) -Steven
