Help me troubleshoot a bluescreen?
Random Blue screens on about once every 3rd to 4th system boot. IT doesn't blue screen everytime, just randomly every other, or other other time. Can I take this troubleshooting any further or am I stuck just guessing something is up with my mainboard or cpu? This is a Windows 7 Pro build, complete install, no upgrade. Very little is on here short of drivers. Have you tried downloading the drivers for your processor for windows? If not download and install them. If this does not help, I recommand to you to use the WhoCrashed software that reveals the drivers responsible for crashing your computer: http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed If you find the suspectous driver, please re-install it with the use of its last version. If WhoCrashed gave you no additional information, please update all your drivers and check if your problem is solved or not. You can use skydrive to upload the dmp files. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d865088d65 Remark: This is a forum for Windows 7 issues. Hi Cliff, - When did the issue first occur? Did it occur after installing some software or changing some hardware? - When does the issue occur? Does the issue occur when starting up Windows or using certain application? Please understand that to solid troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump and analyze the related source code if needed. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. I'd like to recommend that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance so that this problem can be resolved efficiently. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for regional support phone numbers. In the meantime, you can refer to the suggestions below to perform some troubleshooting to see if the culprit can be found. You can perform Last Known Good Configuration if the issue first occurred recently. Please unplug all unnecessary devices and then perform the steps below: 1. Click Start, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter. 2. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers". 3. Right click on your sound card and then click "Properties. 4. In the dropdown menu of Device Usage, please choose "Do not use this device (disable)" and click OK. 5. Please use the same method to disable other dubious hardware such as: internal modem, network card and CD-R drive. Please note some devices such as video adapter are not available to be disabled. Also, you can analyze the small memory dump files yourself. For more information about how to do this, please refer to this knowledge base (KB) article: How to read the small memory dump files that Windows creates for debugging. Hi Everyone, First off thanks for all of the advice. Here are some more details. The bluescreen has occured ever since I originally set this computer up, even before I installed any software but definately after I installed drivers. The blue screen ONLY occurs at random when I am booting up, at which time it will reboot and try to go into windows-repair mode. If I simply skip this and tell it to boot normally, it always goes right into my desktop as it should. Once windows is loaded it's 100% stable. I have since updated my chipset drivers graphic card drivers numerous times with little success, the problem persists at the same frequency. I'll try and upload the memory dump file this evening. As for calling customer support service, do I get any special deal as a technet subscriber?Cliff

Because this system is at home, and I'm at work. :) I could WOL and boot it from here, but then we run the risk of it blue-screening and entering into a never-ending windows repair loop. It's easier if we just wait untill I can get home and get you those dmp files later this evening. Sorry for the delay. Cliff

why don't you upload the dmp files? "A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/ Shoot, disappointingly i'm dumping information in a memory.dmp. It's 200mb+ and skydrive won't let me upload it. Should I change this to log stuff in mini dumps instead? Then the next time it bluescreens send it over?Cliff
