Help with obtaining ownership of a folder
So I have a folder that I got from a friend and I can not delete it. I have tried to gain control of the folder by right clicking the file, going to properties, then clicking the security tab. When I go to the security tab it shows a message saying "To continue you must be an administrative user with permission to view this object's security properties. Do you want to continue?" So I click continue and it brings up a new window titled " Advanced Security Settings for (folder name)" At the bottom it list me as the owner. If I try to select that I get a message saying "Unable to set new owner for (folder name). Access is denied" I used "problem step recorder" to record the problem. I have the saved zip file and if someone could tell me how to upload it so people can see exactly what the problem is and what I'm clicking then i'll upload it. also Im running windows 7 evaluation copy build 7100

Sometimes itseems better if you work on the parent folder.Right click on the parent folder and get to the Advanced Security Settings page. Click the Owner tab and click the Edit button, even if you are already the owner. Click, or add, your userid. Make sure the checkbox "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" is checked. You should see an informational popup about closing and reopening the objects properties. Do exactly that.Reopen Advanced Security Settings, and this time click the Edit button on the permissions tab. Check the "Replace all existing permissions on all descendants..." checkbox and make sure you, ora group you are in has full control for folders subfolders and files. Edit if necessary.Ok all the windows and popups until you get to the initial property page. On the General tab, clear the Read-only checkbox and click ok. Accept the confirmation dialog about applying changes to this folder, subfolders and files. This should give you ownership and full control of the folder and everything under it.

soccerman - Have you gone to Windows Update and gotten all available updates? There's a known issue with the 32 bit RC (build 7100) that has to do with permissions, ACLs (Access Control Lists) and such not being properly implemented in the version that installs from the ISO you (may have) downloaded. The issue was identified and patched within days of the RC's release. More information on the issue can be found here.
