Home network problem
I'm useing a linksys router hooked to a cable modem, and I have cox high speed internet. Now I have the internet working through the router to 2 of my home pc's but if I plug in a 3rd pc to the router the network crashes. It will still say i'm connected to the internet on my other computers but its like i'm totally laged out It wont even load yahoo.com. Now I've tried 2 different PC's as that 3rd pc so I know its not the computer. Any 2 that i hook up work fine, its just adding a 3rd that kills it.2 of the computers are running windows vista and one is running windows xp, not sure if that changes anythings thow since i can have the xp computer work fine with either of the vista machines as long as its only 1 and not 2 of the vista machines. I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. Restarting my cable modem and router several times. and computers over and over. I changed all my ip address from static auto and turned on the routers dhcp and still nothing so i changed them back to static. Whats even more interesting is when I plug in the ethernet cable to my laptop next to me the whole slows to a crawl i'm talking like 5 times slower then dial up. But the second i unplug that cable from the laptop everything on the other 2 computers go back to normal..........I can get the same result by pluging in or unplugging any of the pc's i have.could it be my router is dead and can't handle routing between the 3 computers?Any ideah's would be helpfull i'm running out of idea's and of course my isp wont help with home networking unless i pay them $200 dollars.

Have you tried disabling IPv6? Ive noticed a lot of issues with that protocol. Try turning that off and see if it makes a difference.Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network connections > Right click on your connection you want to change and click properties and un-check IPv6.Let me know how it works out.

Hi, From the symptom you describes, the root cause would be on the router, but not the computers and their operation systems. Since this forum mainly focuses on Windows Vista issues, there are less resource that can help us to resolve this issue. Download latest firmware from Linksys website and upgrade your router firmware, then configure and test again. Also try to connect to different router ports, sometimes the problem can be caused by faulty port.dawoodHome Network and Wireless Network Help
