HowTo: remove unrecognized computer showing up on network list?
I've got an computer that I don't recognize showing up on my list of network computers. I've got a homegroup comprised of two desktops and one laptop, all running Win-7. In Explorer, I see * Network --- HpLaptop --- MainDesktop --- MELONIAMORAL-PC --- ServerDesktop I don't recognize the MELONIAMORAL-PC computer. It adds to the bad odor with the Melon and amoral within the computer name. It's like some computer is in "Windows Remote Assistance" mode, but I don't have that enabled. Is there a way to remove this connection? Does this indicate my network has been infiltrated? I haven't noticed any activity done by this computer. When I click on this connection, I get a message: Windows cannot access \\MELONIAMORAL-PC other times, I've gotten a message with a prompt to login. Here's a link to a screen-shot: http://berean.myphotoalbum.com/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album427&id=unrecognizedcomputeronnetwork

Hi, Is the unknown machine listed under Network icon or HomeGroup icon in Explorer? First, I suggest you run a Ping test to check whether the machine exists or not. 1. Type CMD in Search box and press Enter. 2. Type the following command in the Command Console: Ping MELONIAMORAL-PC If you receive any response from the unknown machine, we can consider that the machine exists in your network. Otherwise, it may be just a history machine. Meanwhile, if the machines are in a Wireless network, please assure that the Wireless is encrypted. Thanks, Novak
