How do I get my Local Print Spooler Service to start working again?
It has been a problem ever since I started using Windows 7 (64 bit), and the workaround of restoring my computer to an earlier date stopped working a few weeks ago. I’ve already reinstalled the printer driver (for Windows 7), as well as trying the following solutions that were posted online: "Run", "services.msc", click OK. Find "Printer Spooler service" in the window, double-click on it and change startup type to Automatic. Delete contents of the C:\Windows\System32\spool\printers folder. Restart computer and reinstall printer. Delete the contents of the following folders: C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers Restart the computer and reinstall the printer driver. Some of these allowed the printer to work for a few seconds before being disabled again. My current error message is 'Local print spooler service is not running'. I have an HP desktop and an HP LaserJet 1020

From my experience it is usually a faulty driver installed on the workstation. Please excuse me if I am barking up the wrong tree but I imagine that you have ensured that your driver supports 64bit?? check that this is correct. once you are sure delete the drivers from the registry from the path below "run" "regedit" Click OK. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers once done, click start, type "cmd" press enter type "net stop spooler" then "net start spooler" then delete the contents in the folders you mentioned above. Finally restart spooler/PC and try adding the driver back on(ensure it is 64bit) Kind Regards, WJB

I tried this, but unfortunately it's still not working :-( Any other ideas? I'm at my wits end :-( I'd even bite the bullet and get a new printer or computer if I thought that would fix the problem...

Hi, Usually, this situation is caused by the printer driver, so please fully uninstall all the printer driver. Then please refer the following link to add the printer manually. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/2c055ac8-b79e-4f30-a53d-798e69ed8d2f For detailed information, you may refer to the following link. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/2b618d54-854a-4cfd-84f5-f069aad75a9fPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
