How do I recover hidden updates?
I recently hid the language packs and found out that we are showing up on a vulnerability list. When I go into Windows Updates and try to unhide anything I've hid, I get a message that shows me that nothing has been hidden. I know that I hid every one of those language packs and can't seem to find a way to get them back.

This is a link about how to hide and unhide a windows update in Vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/72491-windows-update.html It should be similar on Windows 7. So, follow the procedure and your problem will be solved. Best regards.

When I get into the window to unhide the updates I've hidden, there is nothing in that window. I know for a fact that I hid every one of those language packs and never installed them. Please see this link: http://imagebin.org/112024 I would include a picture of my "installed updates", but it would be two screenshots, none of which show language packs.

It is mentioned that you have not hidden any updates for your computer. There is no other way you can proceed to unhide updates and there is no updates to unhide so all should be okay. Have you a certain update that you want to download and you are unable to do it? If yes you can do this manually. Best regards.

We had a meeting and we were informed that by not having the language packs installed from Windows updates, we have a low vulnerability security risk. I hid those about 2 week sago and wanted to unhide them to grab the updates. I'd rather not have to update them each. Is there somewhere I can grab them all in one roll up?

First of all I had never heard that not having language packs installed from Windows Update will have low vulnerability security risk. If there is nothing marked as hidden, this means that this update may already been installed. See your installed updates and the updates to install so that if it exists you will find it. For security vulnerability risks, I recommand to you to use this Microsoft tool MBSA (Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer). It will inform you if there is security updates that are missing and if there is security vulnerability risks. Best regards.

A quick Google search found this: How to easily download and install Windows 7 Language Packs (MUI packs)Rich All software is bug-free, assuming sufficiently clever definitions of "feature" and "expected behaviour" - Steve Rehrauer

Best regards. I completely agree with you. I can't fathom the idea of having something installed that I would never use and that is not important for the system to run leaving a hole in the system. Our security team uses Nessus as one of the scans and it was showing that the absense of those language packs is a low-risk threat. I don't know why, but it was what I was told. Without the language packs, is there a remedy for this?

MBSA is showing the same thing? A solution for that is to determine the reference of the update you want, download it and then install it manually. Best regards.
