How do you give a program permissions to access the windows registry?
I am on Windows 7 Home Prem. and the program that is not working is LocK-A-FoLdeR. Whenever I try to start it, it tells me it could not access the windows registry and I have tried with administrator so that would not help. -coolomancp

Have you tried to dissable the UAC? Sometimes this will block applications without displaying a prompt...

B 4 you installed the "locK...whatever" prog. did your regeditor work at first, and now it doesn't? 2. Once you had installed it, did you go through the ENTIRE prog "Options" and config to YOUR specs, OR: 3. Did you just run the prog, without (a.) rebooting, (b.) rebooted, but did not set ANY "Options" , (c.) Go through ANY of the "File", "Edit", "View", etc. buttons to familiarize yourself with your brand new program? The more info that you can provide would be of the utmost help, otherwise ALL that anyone answering your question can do is to postulate probable end-user problems. Consequently, on both parts(yours and the answerers) solutions May or May Not apply. Thanks, and please!, so more info Horatio

Well the program does not come up in regeditor so I am unsure there and no settings seem to help, and yes UAC is disabled. 1. More info....please. 2. Is it possible that the prog is "hidden"? 3. Unhide files and folders. 4. Get a hold of THEIR tech support gurus and have them walk you through it...ain't that what they're paid for? 5. Do a multiple search i.e., use many search engines and see if others are having the same dilemma.....good probability here. 6. It just occurred to me about what and think about what you said....and wrote...the way the prog is named would definetly send up red flags with me, just might be malware. 7. Question: and please don't take this wrong....But why in the blazes would you want to give a program permission to enter your brains?!!! Anything that happens in your sys is logged in the registry......RED FLAG if its not in there, and I'm assuming here that you searched your entire reg for an instance.

Should answer your problem...no one is answering you back. I try different programs ALL THE TIME, if it gives me the slightest problem, and you've described at least 2 fairly big ones...Trash It. There are ALOT of good progs out there that have responsive tech support. And, you can lock down the particular folders you want through GP, assigning particular people to that sec group, and then go from there. Sounds like you're getting wrapped around the axle over a program that 1. should be easy to use 2. have a responsive coder/company that'll respond quickly if they really do stand behind it. I blow my sys/net up all the time doing stuff like you describe, its not worth the frustration. Get rid of the problem, get a good one, program I mean, not sys/net. KISS....Keep It Simple Silly Please don't take this personally...Good Luck, and oh, Windows does have its own sec measures...If you're runnin' a net with server software you've got 'em. Group Policy is a great place to start. I believe Forums has a Network Forum that may have better, more precise/succinct answers to your prob. Good Luck, hope this helps Horatio

I think I know what you mean, but what I am needing is to lock the folder with a password on my user(so if someone was on my user somehow they would need to get by a password on the folder to get into it) and that program is the only one I have found that does such a thing ):
