How to do remote desktop connection?
I have DSL has my broadband connection. I'm using Linksys E3000 router for my network. All of my computers have local IP address. How do I do a remote desktop connection to, say, 192.168.1.121 or the computer that has the name "myComp" from anywhere that as broadband connection?

Make sure your computer allows for Remote Connections. For XP, go to the system properties, remote tab. For Win 7, system properties, remote settings link. Then, you'll have to allow TCP/3389 to pass through your internet router to your internal computer. You'll need to refer to the router's documentation on how to set up port fowarinding. The last piece is to connect from an internet source. You'll need to know what your public IP is because you'll use that address to connect using the RDP client which is installed by default on Windows systems. To check your public IP, connect to this website from inside your network: http://mySourceIP.com if you have a static Public IP, this address will not change. If your ISP has provided you with a Dynamic Public IP, it may change. You can use a dynamic DNS service to track your public IP. You'll need to research this some more. I have used dyndns.com in the past. There are others.Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.
