I have been trying to recall the password of my win7 laptop. I am unable to login tried several attempts. Is there any way to login or atleast be able to do new OS installation without loosing the data. It's been a year and now I am not using that machine but still I want to reinstall the OS and have my data backup. Can someone provide the steps ?what if I don't have the recovery CD ? I want to reinstall the OS and have my data backup. Soni Vashisht The normal practice is to back up important files regularly, e.g. weekly, rather than waiting for a whole year. If you did not do this before then you can boot your machine with an Ubuntu boot CD and copy your files to an external storage medium: (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/). Have a look at this thread to see what happens to other people who choose not to back up their files.
