How to re-enable compressed file support for Windows Explorer?
I uninstalled WinRAR and now the right click context menu has lost it's capability to create a new compressed (Zipped) folder in Windows Explorer. If I open the control panel and select “Programs | Make a file type open in a specific program” there is no association with .zip files or anything with a description that starts with compressed. I also lost the capability to send files to a zipped folder by trying to associate .zfsendtotarget by changing the association – which was “unknown” to be the windows explorer. How can I restore the default windows explorer capability to create compressed files via a context menu. The registry editor for .zip has the following keys: (Default) – this is empty PerceivedType compressed CompressedFolder | Default (not set) OpenWithProgids | Default (not set) PersistentHandler | (Default) {098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb} ShellNew (Default) (not set) For HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.zfsendtotarget it shows (default) CLSID\{888DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062} PersistentHandler (default) {098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb} Thank you.

Hi ellipsisware, Thanks for the post! You can try a system restore to the time point that you didn’t uninstall the WinRAR. Or, re-install the WinRAR. I did not install this software myself and did not have a restore point that was usable, but installing and uninstalling the latest version (3.93?) did indeed restore the new zip folder capability, it did not fix the "send to new zip folder" capability but with the restored ability to create zip folders I do not need that. Thank you.
