How to remove a staticly IP'd NIC that is no longer installed?
I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 at home – recently I replaced my mobo. Windows 7 did an awesome job and everything updated. I run static IP for my workstation at home, but when I first set up the new NIC (which was DHCP by default) to the same “old” static IP, it errored about multiple default gateways. I accepted the error thinking little of it, and moved on. Well, that NIC (Local Area Connection 4) as 1 and 2 were old wired NIC’s and 3 was old wireless, the newest one got #4…. Is now staticly IP’d and EVERYTIME I disconnect from my work VPN it reverts to NOT having a default gateway (the MS std for when you have multiple gateway errors) but I am no longer prompted to address, leave, or change the config, my PC just acts like it lost internet, I have a mini freak out, and fix it every time. If I VPN back in, and drop that connection – same result everytime. Annoying. I am guessing the “fix” is to regedit out the old static IP configuration, but I have searched the registry for my static IP address without any luck. Anyone have any ideas on where this would be found? Chris

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 But if you don't want to read you can find it under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}
Free Windows Admin Tool Kit Click here and download it now

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 But if you don't want to read you can find it under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID} While this is the correct location for this, it didn't resolve my problem. I found and deleted the GUID for the old interface entirely, rebooted (several times since then, actually) and whenever I disconnect from my VPN I lose my default gateway still. Any more advice greatly appreciated.
