How to restore Windows shell?
Hi, I installed Thinix, a touch-friendly program on my win7 tablet, not knowing it is actually a shell replacement rather than a UI overlay. Now I can't get back my normal win7 interface (sizes for menu, icon, and sliding bar, etc.,) even after I uninstalled the program. Is there any way I can restore the system back to its regular shell? Thank you in advance for any tips. Cheers, Shaun

Thinix has a knowledge base article about this on their web site. Here is the utility called 'Shell Repair' http://www.thinix.com/_documents/ShellRepair_Update.exe from this page: http://thinix.com/kb.asp?action=view&ID=EEF0486E-AE8E-4DBA-932D-D9DAF9292F0C So, when your computer launches and you have an empty shell, open "Task Manager" (CTRL+ALT+DEL or CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and go to File-->New Task. Enter "iexplore.exe" and paste that address in. You should be able to run that utility, then reboot.

Hey guys, Don from Thinix here. We have a knowledge base article on how to restore the Visual Customizations: Here is a link to Thinix forums: http://forums.thinix.com Here is a link to some Thinix KB articles including this one: http://www.thinix.com/kb.asp Thank you. Don Revert Visual CustomizationsSo as it happens, you have applied visual customizations to your computer to make the buttons, scrollbars, menu buttons, etc. larger; but, you’ve decided this isn’t what you want. There are two options for fixing this problem: importing a backup file or manually resetting the values. Option 1 – Import the Backup 1) Open My Computer 2) Open Drive C 3) If you are using a 32bit version of Windows, then open Program Files a. If you are using a 64bit version of Windows, then open Program Files (x86) 4) Open the Thinix folder 5) Open the Backup folder 6) Open the VisualBackup.reg file a. I don’t have one! à Go to Option 2 b. If any prompts open, press Yes or Continue i. You will get a success message once the files has been applied 7) Reboot your system and log back in Option 2 – Manually set the Visual Settings 1) Windows 7 a. Open Control Panel b. Click ‘Appearance and Personalization’ c. Under Personalization, choose ‘Change window glass colors’ d. Towards the bottom third of the window, choose ‘Advanced appearance settings’ i. Change settings as desired 2) Windows Vista a. Open Control Panel b. Click ‘Appearance and Personalization’ c. Click ‘Customize colors’ d. Towards the bottom third of the window, choose ‘Open classic appearance properties for more color options’ i. Change settings as desired 3) Windows XP a. Open Control Panel b. Click ‘Display’ c. In the Display Properties window, click the ‘Appearance’ tab. d. Click ‘Advanced’ i. Change settings as desired

This is not the answer. The article listed here is to reset the SHELL back to explorer.exe (a completely different issue). The issue this user is having is the size of the Minimize, Maximize and scrollbar. We call these settings 'visual customizations'. The correct answer is listed below, and is also available here: http://www.thinix.com/kb.asp?action=view&ID=FBDCB5D7-E4B5-4D2A-9F5A-00513121807B Thanks. -don

...Wow everyone else had these big lists of to-dos, or system restore. In reference to Don from Thinix. Since the Changing of the Windows Shell is that simple it should be just as simple, especially in Windows7, to simply: Go into Personalization Select Windows 7 Theme or another Theme as long as it is not the current theme. Done :) It worked for me. I hope I helped :) You can also delete the custom theme after.
