I have a laptop running Windows Home Premium, and I cannot get my Huawei E220 to work, as the drivers seem to be missing. I cannot do an update driver, as the laptop cannot connect to the internet, as the Huawei is the modem to connect through. Where can I download the drivers for Huawei E220 for Win 7 onto another PC and transfer to my laptop via a memory stick

Hi cdobbs, Thanks for the feedback. I've followed the instructions meticulously and I'm still not getting any joy. I've attempted this on two E220's. Additionally, I've also tried connecting with a Huawei K3715, which is a more recent model. In all cases I receive a Code 31 error. In the device manager it confirms that all items are working correctly, except the MODEM type. I.e. USB Srorage Device, 3G PC UI interface (on COM5), are all working correctly, however the Modem has a yellow explanation mark over it and when you click on properties, it describes the Code 31 error - Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (same happens on the K3715). What else can I try, as I've spent a fortune on the laptop as a gift for my wife yet it is practically useless without connectivity. Going out and buying a new modem is also not an option - our exchange rate makes them prohibitively expensive, therefore we wait for our free hardware upgrades, and that's what we have at the moment. You're leaving out critical information. What type of the operating system are you running? 32bit or 64bit, as I said, if its 64bit then this won't do you any good. Here is the updated driver - http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/doc/list.do?type=-1&id=736 - (top download) Copy the contents of the download from your USB drive to c:\modemdriver (or whatever you want to name the folder) Then follow steps outlined previously (8 - 20) - Ensure that when it asks you for the disk that contains the driver to point it to c:\modemdriver folder Hope that helps.

Hi,I've tried all of the above, on all three modems, with no success. I've used the software from Huawei, as per your link, as well as Web 'n Walk, especially the 64 bit intergrator from T-Mobile, to no avail. I've tried all the 64 bit drivers I can lay my hands on using above instructions, and still no joy. Incidentally, I tried connecting a Sony Ericson phone as well, as a tethered modem, and I received the same message (Code 31) for its driver. The only connection I've managed to get working is my wife's Curve Blackberry, through the BB Desktop manager. Unfortuatnely this is slow (as its not 3G), and expensive, as its a talk and not data package.Any other ideas?Thanks,Norwin

This driver is not for windows 7, 64bit OS I do not think any Huawei mobile modems are Windows 7, 64bit OS compliant !!!

You still need a 32 bit Windows XP machine to run the firmware updater. Phone shop may be able to do this for you. I am in the same situation not having Windows XP to update modem. I have had the trusty E220 since 12" iBook G3 OSX10.2. Works in OSX10.6, but not BOOTCAMP. Other option is VMWare Fusion and use virtual network for Windows 7. New firmware including driver images should work on 64-bit. For example Vodafone has: http://www.business.vodafone.com/site/bus/public/enuk/support/10_productsupport/general/microsoft/vista/30_modem/p_modem.jsp DO NOT APPLY THIS UPDATE. IT DOES NOT WORK IN XP AND BRICKS THE DEVICE.

Hi Norwin I am having the exact same problem as you, both my 3g modems has stopped working on my 64bit machine (windows 7). Did you ever find a fix for this problem? I have been struggling for 2 weeks now. I updated firmware, using the most recent software, and used various drivers for the modem. It is very strange that it suddenly stopped working (it is working fine on other pc's). please help! Regards

found the solution after 2 weeks!!!! 1. Go to start menu 2. Run ‘regedit’ 3. Open this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} 4. In this key, find the “Installer32” string. 5. If the Microsoft Registration Key is missing, the key has to be added manually. 6. Create a “string” value named “Installer32”, and set it to “mdminst.dll,ClassInstall32” 5. Save the ‘regedit’ 6. Open the device manage 7. After long troubleshooting with Huawei E220 on Windows XP, I found that this unit has an issue with Microsoft .NET Farmework 2.0. Huawei E220 runs on Microsoft .NET framework 2.0. (you will get also problems with Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 service pack 1) It can work perfect with version 2.0 but once you will update Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 things start to go wrong. PC is freezing, slow etc. To solve that issue I suggest to do the following: 1. make a restore point and restart your PC. 2. uninstall all Microsoft .NET framework versions Via control panel -> add/remove programs and restart your PC. 3. Uninstall Huawei E220. 4 restart PC 5. delete all Vodafone or Huawei folders left in c:/document settings/ subfoders and in c:/Program files folder as well. 6. Insert your Huawei E220 installation CD and start fresh installation. (don't plug the unit yet and wait until it ask you) 7. Press yes if it will ask you to install Microsoft .NET framework 2.0. The installation CD will do it. 8. Finish the installation and restart you PC. 9. Double click on Vodafone icon and follow the instruction (In this stage you will need to plug the modem) Good Luck
