I'd Like to move all User files to another partition (get them off C:\) How?
When using XP I used TweakUI to move my desktop and other special folders to another partition. This is handy for when I have to re-install from an image (recovery). I simply backup the OS, with all of my pictures, sounds, projects, etc on another drive which will remain untouched. How can I accomplish the same thing in Windows 7? I read a post that TweakUI has been discontinued. Is there another means of doing what I want?

Simply store them on a second partition and include the data into the new Windows 7 libraries http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/windows-7-libraries-%E2%80%93-and-why-you-want-them/ http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/ee431715.aspx André"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

Hi Woeerobert, Besides Library, you may refer to the following link for how to change user profile default location in Windows 7. http://www.windows7hacker.com/index.php/2009/05/how-to-change-user-profile-default-location-in-windows-7/ Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Dear Andre,The information you provided is new to me, and fascinating. I may a bit slow on the uptake, and I will try again later tonight, but at first attempt this seems to be away to copy information into a new library, not move information in an existing library so that Windows will use the User files on (D:\Users\Limited User) and allow me to delete the C:\Users completely. I'll give your suggestion another try tonight. ANy other hints or clarifications you can give this old dog will be greatly appreciated.Robert

by far the easiest is create the folders where you want them. The go into your profile and rightclick on the special folders and go to properties. Click on the location tab and select the new location. You can even do this with your desktop. I used to do this all the time. Good luck.

Yes, I have settled on the method that works for me. The trick is to go to the registry and set new destinations for the user profiles (before you create them) so that any new profiles send the fiolders settings etc to that destination. I have tried it on a virtual machine. I will toy with other settings within Win7. When I have settled those characteristics I will go for a full hard drive installation. Thanks! Robert
