I'm confused...Geek Squad can't help me
I recently got a laptop from a friend who recently wiped out the hard-drive, and re-installed the Windows 7 OS. I cannot find wireless signals on it, so i took it to Best Buy Geek Squads, and I was told that they cannot fix my wifi problem because Windows 7 is fake. I had no idea that it was not a genuine copy, and I'm unsure as to whether or not my computer can operate safely without a genuine version of Windows 7. Now, I don't know what to do about it, because I know that Windows 7 is expensive, but if I were to purchase a full version, is that something that I can install myself, or do I have to take it to a tech savvy person? Also, can XP or Vista run just as good seeing since they're probably cheaper?

Hi collegekid007, If your computer can run Windows 7 I do recommend that you run that on the computer. But before you go to the store and buy anything, make sure that the computer manufacture has the correct device drivers for your model.Kind regards Tim Nilimaa IT Consultant at Mindgrape (Sweden) Please remember to mark this answer as helpful if it helped you.

Click Start=>right-click Computer=>select properties. Look at the Windows Activation area at the bottom. Is it activated? Do you have an "ask for genuine Microsoft software symbol"? If yes, then how did they determine it was "fake"? Click Start=>type devmgmt.msc in the search box and select device manager (devmgt) from the Programs results. Click on the triangle next to Network Adapters. Do you see two? Post the name of wireless adapter here. What is the make and model of the notebook\netbook?
