I am trying to find out about another product (Registry Patrol) that I purchased on-line for $39.95 about one month ago and am not able to access it now or use it.
My computer was becoming very slow with frequent screen freezes. I was told to look for a registry program and found Registry Patrol. I did download it as I mentioned above. However, cannot access it any longer or use it. My computer is slowing down again. What should I do? I also have AVG 9.0 for internet security.Thank you for any help you can give me.2 people need an answerI do too

I am guessing you may have heard some crafted malwares can block access to like Task Manager or the Windows Registry and other type softwares particularly security softwares (free home versions antivirus, antispyware) and here indeed is possible for a registry cleaner as these may detect a malware registry key installed and possibly blocking use of the product to block removal. They earn the title "badware".PROBLEM.... unfortunately you seem to have been duped into a fake rogue product that may install malware and ID Theft is a distinct possibility....Registry Patrol Descriptionhttp://www.spywareremove.com/removeRegistryPatrol.htmlRegistry Patrol is a rogue anti-spyware application. Registry Patrol is often downloaded and installed by a Trojan, through browser security holes, or via other unconventional and unethical mechanisms. Once installed, Registry Patrol will display notifications of imaginary security and privacy risks in its attempts to get the user to purchase the full version and may generate system slowdown and instability. This program can be extremely difficult to manually remove.Registry Patrol Descriptionhttp://www.enigmasoftware.com/winantispyware2008-doctorantivirus2008-winfixmaster-defs-v870/Registry Patrol is a rogue registry cleaner and repair utility known to safely clean, optimize and repair your Windows operating registry. Registry Patrol is said to remove system problems, such as error messages, crashes and computer slowdowns. However, due to its inaccurate results, which are not 100% reliable, we have considered Registry Patrol a menace to the security of your personal and financial information. Registry Patrol exaggerates threat’s risk levels found on your computer system. For instance, Registry Patrol will consider missing shortcuts as a High threat. Furthermore, Registry Patrol will include itself as part of the threat results found from the computer system scan, clearly stating, that Registry Patrol is a threat itself. In addition, some features found on Registry Patrol, such as Load on startup, don’t work at all. Other program errors displayed on the generated scan are fake, once you check the registry lines, you’ll discover that programs are working fine.REVIEW BAD PRODUCTS LISTS TO AVOID DUPLICATE INCIDENTS....Title: The Spyware Warrior List of Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites Description: Bad, False, Fake products URL: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm LavaSoft -- The Rogue Gallery http://www.lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/rogues/latestThe Rogue Gallery, powered by the Malware Labs at Lavasoft, is a resource dedicated to keeping computer users safe from rogue security software. Gerald60606 is correct. Your computer was severely infected and one of the malware programs got you to install more malware - Registry Patrol. I don't think installing the Emisoft program he suggested is going to help you, though. There is no reason to purchase anything else. At this point your computer is probably so infected that you should back up your data and do a clean install of Windows. In addition, because you gave The Bad Guys your credit card, you should immediately contact your credit card provider, do a chargeback, and void that credit card and get a new one.If you want to try and clean up your computer:Bleeping Computer has removal steps for many variants of rogues here -http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-antivirus-vista-2010You can also check for removal steps at these links:Bleeping Computer removal how-to's - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html Malwarebytes malware removal guides - http://tinyurl.com/5xrpftMalwarebytes' Anti-malware (MBAM) or SuperAntiSpyware will often do the job. Otherwise things might be sticky as to "willful destruction of evidnece" or "obstruction of justice" or 'complicity - aiding and embedding' along those lines. Research ! The above links quoted here will help you determine if you were scammed according to the Electronic Agreement of the End User License (EULA) whereas you most likely are not able to be compensated for by a refund. In other words their defense might be you agreed to the purchase "As Is" - if it is crapware then that is that - along those lines. I am referring you there that this is what you will run into and be prepared to answer these questions.TIP: You may need an Advanced User help to attempt to copy/paste the EULA as some added text file in the applicaiton installation to present to answer these questions at these Law and Help destinations. If you are going to be using the computer - and apparently you have - then the above removal instructions are imperative for reasons stated. The Cyber Crime scenario of ID Theft can then be initiated by the financial institution and yourself and on your behalf and the Criminal Forensics will turn up all info if necessary to complete the arrest of those involved if necessary. Put on the thinking cap and make the decision as to how you wish to pursue things. I did my best to throw ten years of experience at you. Windows has a registry size limit which when approaching to exceed that - Windows and/or other softwares will cease to operate. This is called ..... "incremental registry damage". The Windows XP Registry Size Limit Imposed is 200M. Like I said if you want boot camp.... Also newer products then RegSeeker latest release to work with Vista now have full registry back up and defrag operations. This is imperative in reinstalling from side drives as additionally necessary to overwrite the registry and files in cases of catastrohic damages by today's bots - botnet infections which was performed here successfully....http://www.bluecollarpc.org/Forensics.html Never the need to reinstall Windows even in a disaster like that, no rootkits present though. I see your opinion and across the Net you will see that some of IT believes you do not need antivirus products. Talk to the experts who know better. It is how I learned.Product Incrementation of Windows Registry - Windows Registry Size Limits http://www.liutilities.com/products/registrybooster/faq/registrycleaner/"Fragmentation is a serious problem and occurs when application processes modify the registry continually and incrementally .Eventually registry file sizes may exceed the Registry Size Limits imposed by Windows. This causes subsequent modifications to the registry to fail. Most registry repair software allow you to defrag your registry ensuring that such issues do not occur. This is true prevention."Gerald60606 Windows Live Spaces http://gerald60606.spaces.live.com/default.aspx

I am surprised as you site in signature "Microsoft MVP " which has been misused by many only to mean that they are not indeed Microsoft Employees and so on but used this as simply meaning they are calling themselves as Microsoft products such as Windows and they are Most Valued Persons as being knowledgable about them as compared to a novice having trouble learning how to send their first email. I have noticed as well many of these have added that they "are not Microsoft Employees" aside this now. So, some have muddied this.If indeed a Microsoft employee and so on then I find your positon about registry softwares as curious as Microsoft has certified Uniblue Registry Booster as a Gold Partner. Indeed that product restored my registry successfully with the mentioned catastrophic damages to the registry (forensics link from homepages) and as well other and many files were damaged and connectivity destroyed in a botnet hijack attempt. That refers to "snake oil". I refer to the Experts and what they say. Professionals and their products can be in divisions - but not the Experts. Experts stand up in a court of law. If we follow the line that registry softwares are "snake oil" (fake product having no worth then is deceptive) then it must be assumed you are accusing Microsoft themselves of deceptive practices in certifying as Gold Partners these products.Agreed, these products are always warned by an Advanced User to someone asking help that just one mistaken deletion of a valid registry key can render Windows and/or other softwares inoperable. I have an entire page and webcast and posted that link for the User here to understand that. In other words for the novice (newbie) it is best they gain more experience with Windows before EVER touching one of these products. It is hard enough for an Intermediate User and I know because I was one. I posted another webcast whereby just one registry key as a left over Avtive X key from an uninstall of a legitimate toolbar (sloppy uninstall, remnant left overs, orphan file / key) was causing my browser window to jump around almost continually. The registry cleaner detects all these left over remnants from trafficking through time and presents them for inspection for deletion. They are used as a User would simply click "Delete All Temporary Internet Files When I Close My Browser". The left over remnants of registry keys and sub keys are no different than trash temporary internet files as example. These the experts indicate can be re-used by malware. It is the User in their experience and knowledge with Windows after perhaps a couple years even that begin to learn to keep a clean machine and delete all trash files and registry items. This experience makes all these products - "temporary tracks cleaners" and registry cleaners and antivirus and antispyware products - to a multi billion dollar industry just in the "XP Years". Your sentiment seems to indicate that I and the vast public are idiots paying money for nothing which is what the product the User here found out is indeed "snake oil".I have been through this many times. Unfortunately too many people indeed share your view. In IT Security, one could be held responsible. I too perform IT Security for Home/Small Business and your views are not "compliant".Again, the experts have clearly indicated that if you just "leave the trash pile up" forever in the Windows Registry - the Windows Operating System, and most notably any antivirus product first, will cease to function. The proper "incrementation" is like Windows Updates, and antivirus and antispyware product updates. Incrementation damages can occur from just leaving the "trash pile up" never cleaning it with perhaps your view or similar to where at some point the antivirus product will go for automatic updates definitions and cease to function. Or some Patch Tuesday - the Windows Updates will never install.... no room left in the Registry for changes or additions/updates.I start at $150.00 USDollars in consultations but give this away and if interested here :http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/COPPOJ-ITSEC/I have answered to hope to win anyone over with that view (yours) to join along with the rest of the majority of knowledgable users and the industry and the security community as in the know making informed decisions by going to the Experts and reputible Professionals. My bottom line is that Microsoft are the Experts obviously of the Windows Operating System as the author of it much as Henry Ford is of the Ford motor industry - they created it and are its master ! I would definately lend an ear to learn there as SOURCE.These have declared legitimate safe and tested registry cleaners as a vital Windows tool for safe optimum and secure Windows Operating System operation. I can not see anything to the contrary except to grab aa seat at the trial for criminal deceptive practices which they have not been accused of with Uniblue (liutilities) Registry Booster http://www.uniblue.com/software/registrybooster/QUOTE...Software you can trustA Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, Uniblue delivers products that are safe and secure. There were impersonations I remember a couple of years ago going on. The google thingy is just one example in a TOS that is a great example showing this and what can be done about it and only applies to google areas. It was mentioned because this is typical in all ISPs areas and so on in the greater scheme of things. Sorry for any confusion. The User seeking help has not returned as of yet and hopefully it indicates they are busy with things rather than further troubles PC wise. Perhaps they have even posted simultaneously at other forums and has even achieved a fix already and simly never returned.Myself, i enjoyed your point of view and disagreed on some parts and agreed with others. The security area has really divided at the "Vista Bashing" point obviously and is quite balck and white. I agree when Microsoft was ready to bring lible suits against it and I have praised Vista since owning one. I am on that side of the ailse and in IT for what it is worth. I well recognize the unsafe ignorance in USA businesses that are the real problem. This naturally pans out to the average users as well that is more than understandable. Next time.... I must just offer my advice and stop comments on others I guess. When you are wrong you are wrong. When you are right you are right. There is way too much ignorance across the board in security help in forums as an FYI. I am not the moderator. I would forbid it and ban the helper myself, naturally.Gerald60606 Windows Live Spaces http://gerald60606.spaces.live.com/default.aspx
