I am unable to Block outbound nbns broadcasts in windows 7 firewall?
Hello, I am trying to block all outbound traffic on my ethernet interface. I seem to be unable to block some multicast and broadcast traffic such as NBNS Broadcasts I have set default outbound rule to deny I have disabled all outbound rules. I have even enabled 1 rule to block all traffic. Wireshark still shows broadcasts and multicast traffic. Any help appreciated. Gav

If you wish, you can try disabling NetBIOS. Open "Network Connections", click Properties on your network interface, click properties on "Internet Protocol Version 4", click Advanced, then click the WINS tab.

Hi, To block all outbound traffic, please check the following article. It can also be applied on Windows 7. http://www.demogeek.com/2009/01/18/block-outbound-traffic-windows-vista-firewall/ Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. I have found that any windows 7 pro machine will allow broadcast traffic though.

I'm assuming you are doing this for testing purposes so it might be easier to install a third-party firewall.
