I checked out some of the games and was dissappointed.
Windows Seven is obviously intended for more modern hardware with video accellerators. The first thing that comes up is that I need to add a hardware video upgrade to my laptop. An obvious impossibility. I would need to replace the laptop. So I was quite disappointed that the new games have no mode that lets them run at at least equal speed to the versions on XP. This has some major drawbacks since anyone writing programs which interface with the GUI in the same way the games do will likely not upgrade as they will have to expect a decrease in performance. Why should I upgrade if I expect my Design CAD software to animate more slowly? You should have a mode that allows Windows 7 to perform at least as well as XP or I for one will not upgrade.

You can set the machine to run in XP mode and shouldn't take a hit in performance as aero glass can sometimes be a resource hog depending on the vid card/RAM. Also you could add more physical memory and allocate extra to shared video memory to get that extra performance boost.

Brigham - Well... You're right. Laptops aren't built to be modular - they're built to be portable and there's precious little that can be upgraded on them - besides RAM and the hard and optical drives. That IS the price of portability. The thing is, most game companies are always out to write stuff that's on the bleeding edge of hardware. They like to push the envelope to make their games look better, more realistic. That's what they figure sell games. So if you're a hard core gamer, you don't really have much choice but to get on the upgrade rollercoaster. As far as Windows 7 goes... It's been my experience (and that of many others) that Windows 7 runs as fast, if not faster than XP in many situations. If you're having issues with video drivers not being as fast as the ones out for XP, keep in mind that XP's been out for going on 8 years now and the drivers have had time to mature. Windows 7 hasn't even been released as yet. There are still issues that need to be resolved - especially with video drivers. But, by all means, if you want to stick with XP, no one's going to put a gun to your head and force you to upgrade. When you do eventually replace the laptop somewhere down the road after Windows 7 gets released, you might want take another look at it to see if it's to your liking.

What keyboard/mouse issues? I haven't had any keyboard/mouse issues with Windows 7... I have, quite probably, replied to someone else's post with regards to keyboard/mouse issues.
