I give myself permissions to access my own files, but still get denied
Ok, im running Windows 7 Ultimate N, on a Toshiba laptop. My problems with permissions started when i did a full re-install a few weeks ago. I decided to back up all my work (mainly pics, vids, and documents, and pdf) to external hard drives, and wipe my internal clean, using my Windows CD and doing a full format. So i have only one User Profile, and its the Administrator and everything. I go to access my files on the external drive and I have no permissions to open them. Now i realize i changed my computer name during the install process.... so this may have caused a conflict, im not sure, but maybe. So this is what i see, and i go forth, and grant myself permissions, and now i can open the folder, and i have to repeat this process (about 8 clicks) for every folder im locked out of, and every folder contained within: http://i.imgur.com/WHi6L.jpg Troublesome, maybe there is a way around this, but at least i can work with it, and get the files i need. The real problem is when i do this, on certain files, or videos, and It Still does not give me access to open it or copy it. This is where it gets very frustrating, and im unable to get the permissions to work. I get errors like this about 50% of the time. Notice how in the following example, I can open all the files in this folder, except for the first one. Even with all the permissions and whatnot exactly the same, with the name correct and everything: http://i.imgur.com/CTY81.jpg Also with other programs like VLC: http://i.imgur.com/RSw0C.jpg And the subsequent LOG that gives absolutely no help to me, except the dreaded "Permission denied" excuse: http://i.imgur.com/hwzxJ.jpg Please, anybody that could help resolve this is much appreciated. I can provide info on this problem on demand. Im really hoping im just not informed and that there is a simple fix to this. It seems to be random, but the files it affects cannot be replaced, for its part of my work, and If for any reason I need to use these files, its as if they do not exist. I did not backup my files for nothing. I just want windows to work the way it does the other fifty percent of the time. Thanks. PS. the name "Troll/Jaime" is just a name, it means nothing. This is a serious problem. Please do not discriminate against some random name.
