I just enabled Bitlocker, laptop has TPM1.2 but asks for usbkey?
I enabled Bitlocker on my HP laptop which has a TPM 1.2 chip on it. I have Windows 7 Ultimate with sp1, and it's a standalone workgroup-laptop. During this process of enabling Bitlocker, I was told to save the encryptionkey onto a disk, a usbmemory or print it out. I saved it to a usb. Questions: 1. Why was not TPM used? TPM management console says the chip is activated 2. If TPM had been in use, would I be asked for a pincode every startup (instead of inserting this usbmem) ? 3. Can I get this to work with TPM/Pin without decrypting whole disk again?

I managed to activate TPM+Pin in localgroup policies, and then I could use commandprompt to set at pincode. Then it works as supposed at bootup. But still I wonder why I was not asked for a pin during the configuration of Bitlocker? (Since I have TPM 1.2) ??

Hi, After the TPM is initialized, the BitLocker setup wizard prompts you to choose how to store the recovery key. You can choose from the following options: 1. Save the recovery key to a USB flash drive. Saves the recovery key to a USB flash drive. 2. Save the recovery key to a file. Saves the recovery key to a network drive or other location. 3. Print the recovery key. Prints the recovery key. Use one or more of these options to preserve the recovery key. For each option that you select, follow the wizard steps to set the location for saving or printing the recovery key.
