I manually deleted Java from my computer, but now when I try to reinstall it I get error message 1723.
I downloaded a java developement kit, then when I was done with it I manually deleted it from my computer (I went into my hard drive and deleted the folder containing the program). When I did, I accidentally deleted my Java Runtime Environment. I now download the JRE to install it again, but when I open the installation program it gives me this message: "This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it?". Then it gives me two options, either yes or no. If i click no, it exits out of the installer. If I click yes, it begins the reinstallation by opening a window that says: "retrieving information" It then halts and gives me an error message: "error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." When I exit out of this, it gives me the message: "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use the Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.". Now i attempt to uninstall the java from my computer by going into the Add/Remove Programs service. When i get there, it lists the program "Java(TM) 6 Update 22". I right click and attempt to uninstall, but when i do, it gives me the same error message: "error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." Then the uninstallation shuts down, leaving me with the message: "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use the Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel." After this I'm left staring at my Add/Remove Programs list feeling like I just screwed myself and my computer over. Both the error message and sources like http://www.javafixer.org/error-1723.php, http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/error-1723 have told me that the problem is most likely the windows installer and if I update it it will fix my problem, but they have all lead me to pages like this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=5A58B56F-60B6-4412-95B9-54D056D6F9F4&displaylang=en. I run on Windows 7, and none of these downloads are applicable to Windows 7. As you probably know, I need Java to run many of the programs i use everyday, and it is frustrating that I now cannot use them. I would greatly appreciate help.

reinstall the development kit. Then remove it via control panel=>uninstall a program. That should get you back to where you want the computer. or if you created a restore point from a recent time when the development kit was installed, restore the computer from Start\Control Panel\System and Security\Backup and Restore and select restore button and a restore point.

Guys, Try this, it's a registry hack but it's doubtful that it will damage anything. Open regedit and then go to: HkeyLocalMachine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall Look in there and find the install/uninstall information for java. Delete that entry and you should be able to install.
