If I have five bars of wireless signal, why do I have no internet access?
I have a Dell Studio 15 laptop, and I upgraded to windows 7 a few months ago. I have never had a problem with the wireless network at home. In fact, it was working properly, and then all of a sudden it was gone. The icon says that I have full connection, but there is no internet access. I ran the diagnostic, and windows can't find a problem with it. I've gone from forum to forum trying to figure this out, and I can't seem to fix it. I tried unplugging the router ( a Linksys WRT300N Wireless-N broadband router), nothing. I even reset it, now leaving my network vulnerable because it is now unsecured. Nothing. I tried plugging in the ethernet cord, and it also says that there is no internet access. PleasePleasePlease, in layman's terms, help me fix this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tieraaah ! I think you should check your router that its working fine with XP or some other operating systems because I think that its the issue in your router not in your Windows. Regards. Shafaquat Ali.M.C.I.T.P Exchange 2007 M.C.I.T.P Windows Server 2008 M.C.T.S OCS Server 2007 R2

Hi, This issue can occur by several factors, such as ISP, incorrect network settings, corrupted WinSock or incompatible driver. To troubleshoot the issue, please try the following steps. 1. Bypass the router and connect to DSL modem directly via wired cable to check the result. If Internet still cannot be accessed, this issue can occur by ISP and you need involve them for further assistance. 2. Upgrade the Wireless adapter driver to the latest one. 3. Reset WinSock a. Click Start, click "All programs", and click "Accessories". b. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. c. Please enter the following command, and press Enter. Netsh winsock reset d. A message stating "Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog" will appear. Please restart the computer. Thanks, Novak

In addition to everything else already suggested. Make sure that you do not have static IP information that is incorrect or stopping you from receiving a correct DHCP configuration. http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/2009/11/26/windows-7-static-ip/ == walk through for setting static IPs in windows 7. Note that to make your settings dynamic you just need to tick "obtain IP address automatically"(seen in the last pic).
