Implementing System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection

I'm new to working with System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection and have several questions regarding SCEP 2012:

  • Am I understanding correctly that the Endpoint Protection system runs within System Center 2012 Configuration Manager?  In other words, do I only need a System Center 2012 server to manage Endpoint Protection, or do I need a separate Endpoint Protection server?
  • Will the following three servers suffice for an implementation of SCEP 2012?
    • Server running System Center 2012 Configuration Manager
    • WSUS server for update distribution
    • SMTP server for sending email alerts
  • Can the back-end database run locally to the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager server, or can it be split off to a server managed by our DBA team?
  • How many client systems can a single management server protect?

I appreciate your help!

Hi,

Yes, you only need a COnfiguration Manager 2012 server to manage endpoint protection, the three servers you meantion should be OK, depending on the number of clients.

The backend DB can run on the Primary Site server, if you have great hardware I would say you can manage up to 20'000 clients using a single server, depending on a lot of factors oc course.. after that you would need to add servers and move roles to the different servers..
