When I try to add the printer through the normal method, the networked printer is located during the search, but when I select my printer, Windows searches “windows update” and then returns the error “No Driver Found”. I get the option to search for the driver manually and have downloaded the proper 64 bit HP driver to my machine (hp 4100n). When I browse to that location, I get the error message “operation failed with error 0x00000214” I have been able to install the work around mentioned in numerous places to install the port locally which is an adequate temporary fix and enables printing to that device from my local machine. However, I am using Remote Desktop Connection to access additional machines, and Terminal Services will only pull through networked printers for printing from the remote desktop, so my printing from my remote desktop is essentially disabled. I have a old machine that I upgraded to the 32-bit version of Windows 7, and I have successfully installed the same printer in the exact same setup and made remote desktop printing work, so I am relatively certain the issue is isolated to W7 64 bit. Any help would be appreciated.

The procedure for installing a printer in 64-bit is exactly the same steps as in 32-bit. However, you must have 64-bit print driver software for 64-bit Windows. 32-bit print driver software will not install on 64-bit and vice versa.

There is a Win 7 64bit driver for that printer: LaserJet 4100 Printer seriesRich The only two things that are infinite in size are the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not completely sure about the universe. - Albert Einstein

Is this a networked printer or a shared printer on a host computer?

Hi, To add the network printer, please also try the following steps. 1. Click “Devices and Printers”. 2. Click “Add a printer”. 3. Choose “Add a local printer” and click on “Create a new port”. 4. Select “Local Port” and click “Next”. 5. Type in "[\\computer name\printer name]" (without quotation marks) for the Port Name and click “OK”. Example: If the computer you wish to connect to is named ComputerA and the printer is called PrinterA then the path would be \\ComputerA\PrinterA 6. Please select a correct driver from the list. If the model is not listed, please click the “Windows Update” button. Wait for the process finishes and try to find the driver again. Thanks, Novak

Novak, I tried this and it works fine-- except that it returns an error message to the effect that the driver is not on the network. Well, I suppose that the driver on the machine to which the printer is connected is an XP 32 bit driver, and the sending machine is a Win7 64 bit machine with a Win7 64 bit driver, but is there any way to make the error message go away?
