Intermittent success with Wake on LAN
I'm upgrading to Windows 7 and thought I'd take the opportunity to investigate Wake on LAN. I tend to leave my PC on which is real waste of money but I do occasionally need to remotely wake it up. I've not got to the stage of doing this over the internet - this post is about WOL over my internal wired network.I'm using the "Wake On Lan" application from my other Windows XP system and it sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. The network card in my Gigabit motherboard is WOL compatible and the fact that it sometimes works sort of confirms the card is compatible.I suspect it's because the W7 PC is sometime hibernating and other times it's sleeping. It's configured to sleep at the moment after two minutes and hibernate never. However, when it fails to respond to WOL and I have to manually press the power, I'm sure it's coming out of hibernate - the POST screen appears and it says "Resuming Windows" before displaying the unlock prompt - is this coming out of hibernation?Cheers, Rob.

Later... I've found "WOL - Magic Packet Sender" which has a receive mode that you can run on the target PC. It pops up a message box each time the magic packet is received and this works fine. This sort of proves the sender side is okay.Cheers, Rob.
