Internet connection speed suddenly extremely slow on Windows 7, not on Linux
The last 2 days I have suddenly EXTREMELY slow internet connection. The connection dropped suddenly without any changes done by me (e.g. installing / uninstalling new programmes and/or updates). I tried various internet speed test sites, all of them showed me average download speeds between 7-20 kbps when all other applications which are allowed to access internet were switched off. My normal connection speed is btw 12000kbps, that means that my current connection speed is less then 1% of the original speed. I thought it's a problem on the side of my ISP, so I checked at my friend, who has the same connection "package" and the same provider, his connection speed is normal (1.5MBps), so I borrowed his laptop, and connected it to my LAN cable, the laptop was connected with full 1.5MBps speed. I thought the problem can be with my PC's hardware (e.g. network card), so I rebooted my PC with a live Ubuntu linux distro. In Ubuntu I also got full speed. That means the problem is not on my provider's side, not a hardware problem, and doesn't appear on Linux , so it appears only on my Windows 7 64 bit installation. Since it looks like a virus / mallware problem, I checked my computer with Microsoft Security Essentials , and Spybot Search & Destroy - both programs show my system is clean. The very strange thing is that I had a similar problem a few months ago, then it disappeared after a few days. Since it happened now a second time, I'd really like to know what's the problem and how can I prevent it next time ? Any tips what should I try ? Or which information can/should I provide ? Thanks a lot for any help

Hi, According to your description, I suggest to perform these tests to troubleshoot the issue: 1 Login with Clean Boot or Safe Mode with networking to see if the same issue occurs. 2 Temporally disable firewall on your PC 3 Disable Remote Differential Compression in “Programs and Features” 4 Disable IPv6 5 Reinstall the driver of network card, or you can update the driver to the latest version. In addition, since it worked well two days before, you can also try to perform system restore for test. Hope that helps. So I accepted a tip from my friend, who recommended me SpywareTerminator. Since I checked my comp with Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG and Spybot, and all 3 claimed that my computer is clean from any malicious software, I thought that SpywareTerminator will also find nothing. I was wrong. SpywareTerminator found 13 "critical objects" and immediately after deleting them I got my full internet speed back. The sad thing is that MS Security Essentials claimed that my computer is "clean". Thanks for your help
