Invisible Folder

I have a folder called Microsoft in my second drive where I keep all my Microsoft related stuff, until yesterday I could see and access the folder in the normal way, then I went to access it and it was gone, I could not see it, I enable show hidden files and folder and show protected folders in folder options but it was still not visible.

I created a shortcut to it typing in the address and sure enough I was able to get into it and access all my files and folder in side.

So the folder exists but I am unable to see it. I have a backup program that backs it up every night and that is still working and completing the backup without error.

I have since copied everything out of the folder into a new folder but I am very curious as to how this has happened.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

let's narrow down it:

Was this folder created by yourself instead of system create automatically in local drive?

Could you create a folder called "Microsoft" in the same directory?

How did you create shortcut for it?

It's hard to point out the root. Try to run this command for this folder as below:

Attrib -H -S <foldername>

Thanks for the reply, I had already tried the attrib option to no avail.

I created the folder probably 2 years ago, I use it daily, I can access it by typing the address in the address bar (h:\Microsoft) I created a shortcut to it by typing in the location in the wizard, if I try to create a second folder with the same name I get the error that there is already a folder with that name and would I like to merge them, I tried both yes and no to that with the same result. still cant see it.

I have just tried again to go to the directory in the CMD window and this time it allowed me to do it, the moment I typed the cmd "cd  h:\Microsoft" the folder suddenly appeared in the explorer window.

Very strange. Anyway I will update this post should the folder disappear again.

Thanks again.
