Is Windows Enough??
Is it necessary to purchase further protection if I am already subscribing to Windows XP (SP 3), and IE 8, ensuring that the updates, firewall and anti-virus provided by Microsoft are all switched on and operating. Do I really need further protection by a third party? Does MS claim that updated versions of XP and IE provide adequate protection provided they are kept up to date? 2 people need an answerI do too

Microsoft does not provide an anti-virus (at least not unless youchoose to download and install it--Microsoft Security Essentials). You need three kinds of software for security, but you don'tnecessarily have to purchase anything. There is very good freewareavailable: 1. A firewall. The Windows firewall you already have is fine. 2. Anti-virus program. I recommend eSet NOD32, if you are willing topay for it. If you want a free anti-virus, I recommend one of thefollowing three: AviraAvastMicrosoft Security Essentials 3. Anti-spyware program or programs. In addition to Defender, whichyou may already have (or else what anti-spyware protection MicrosoftSecurity Essentials provides) I recommend that you download andinstall (both freeware) MalwareBytes AntiMalware *and*SuperAntiSpyware. The best place to know is your Windows Security Center in Control panel open it and see if it said you are ok then you are secure and if you have to something then do it.Make sure your PC and all applications get update.
