Is it Law to supply o/s original media?
Hi all, I have a colleague who recently purchased An Alienware custom built laptop (now owned by Dell) and paid to upgrade the O/s to windows 7 Pro, he has got a problem that we think is related to the O/s not going past the post and just leaving a flashing cursor in the corner. he spoke to Dell who said he should of made the recovery disks from inside windows 7, but my question really is: is there any obligation for the supplier to give the original (or any) media with the purchase? seems a bit ripe after he spent almost £1500 on the thing! sorry I just couldnt word a question well enough in a search to find the answer! Loll Cheers for your input guys

What happens if there is a catastrophic hard disk failure? I've always installed systems from retail or OEM CD's, so I've never had to deal with a recovery partition. -- Crash What happens online, stays online.

Loll Cheers for your input guys Hi Haines1978 The only requirement for an OEM computer manufacturer is that they provide a 'recovery option' which can be an installation DVD, a recovery partition, or even an online backup service. Recently most OEM's have been using a recovery partition. They usually provide a way to create a recovery DVD using the recovery partition. This should be done when you first receive the computer. Some OEM manufacturers will also provide a way to purchase an installation DVD, for a small fee. Call your computer manufacturer for more information. Thank You for using Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

this is strange I have seen and worked on thousands of Dell laptops and they all came with the OS media here in Australia, but they are all for company use and not sure if it is the difference When your friend ordered the laptop, somewhere in the website should state wether or not the OS media will be provided. If they stated that when your friend order his laptop then he can't argue
