Is the program 'Microsoft Antimalware' a legitimate MS program
Hi I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64bit and using Microsoft Security Essentials which is in my 64bit program folder. I also have in my x86 program folder a program called 'Microsoft Antimalware'. I read in another forum that this is not a genuine Microsoft item and may in fact be some sort of malware. Can one of the MS moderators elaborate please. Thanks

Hi, after installing Microsoft Security Essentials, Microsoft Antimalware service should be in services.msc: However, I don't have such folder in program files. You can post the issue in MSE forum and see if the folder belongs to MSE or third party program: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/mse Also, I suggest you try a free online virus scan on the following site: http://safety.live.com/ For information about Security updates, visit the Microsoft Virus Solution and Security Center for resources and tools to keep your PC safe and healthy. If you are having issues with installing the update itself, visit Support for Microsoft Update for resources and tools to keep your PC updated with the latest updates. Sean Zhu - MSFT

Hi Sean; In XP SP3, when I look in [ MSConfig --> Services tab ], then check off "Hide all Microsoft Services" the Microsoft Antimaleware Service is still listed. As well, the listed publisher is "Unknown". This causes confusion as to the lagitamacy of this software/service, thus I arriving at this article. If you do believe or know that Microsoft's legitamate service should NOT show up after checking the "Don't show MS..." box, please let me know. I am going to try the live.com scan and thank you for the reference. Glenn T. Kitchen VB.NET Forums
