Is this a bug: Intead of custom icon location, custom web page shortcuts in Favoroites > Properties > Change icon... > always show %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
When you right click on an internet link shortcut > Properties >
Change icon...
you can set custom icons for links in your Internet Explorer Favorites folder.
After you do that, why does clicking on Change icon... always show %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
instead of the location of your custom icons for your Internet Explorer Favorites links?
This behavior started happening with IE 7. If you check on IE 6 on old systems, it still correctly shows the actual custom icon location, but not IE7 or later, is this a bug?

Hi,
Thanks for the post!
This behavior is by design, the icons are installed in SHELL32.DLL, check this:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5036238/Win%207%20shell32.dll%20icons.jpg, here's a list of all the icons
included in SHELL32.DLL
Regards,
Miya

Why would the old default icon location be permanently displayed by design *after* you set a different
custom icon location?
This does not happen with program shortcuts so why with internet shortcuts?
If you change a program shortcut icon, Windows will *always* show the custom icon location in Properties. But if you change a custom icon location for an internet shortcut, even though it will be displayed correctly, Windows would *always* show SHELL32.dll
in properties instead of your custom icon location, do you understand what I'm saying, once you change to a custom icon - it is no longer SHELL32.dll, so why in the Properties does it permanently show SHELL32.dll as the shortcut icon, when it no longer is?
In other words, after you change the internet shortcut icon - you have no way of finding out the location of your custom icon, since SHELL32.dll is shown in Properties, which is now incorrect - since you changed it to a custom icon, located elsewhere on
your system.
Example, this is how Internet Explorer 6 correctly displays a custom icon location, but as soon as you update from IE6, this no longer shows up
correctly like this, click here .
