So I recently received a notification to update Windows 8 to 8.1 and installation went smoothly.  It wasn't until I restarted my pc and tried opening my "FILE EXPLORER" from my start up menu.  When I try to open it it prompts the window 8 app screen and than reboots to the desktop window but never opens the files.... I figured that it would open file directly but noticed after several navigation's with in the file it does the same thing..  Can anyone please help its very annoying.

Run Windows Update and install all updates.

Try unpin Explorer from start and re-pin it there.

How about your problem now? If you open File Explorer by WIN+E, what would happened? Did you try any method to fix this problem? Such as SFC /scannow command to fix system file?
