Issue with Windows 7 Professional Laptop on Windows Network Can't Access Internet
Hello All, I have a user working in a remote office that just recently has not been able to access the internet when he's connected via Ethernet cable or wifi to office network. He can access internal server like the file server and exchange server but can't browse the internet. He was working fine and all other users are working just fine. The weird thing is this is the second time this happens. A few months back we had to swap out his laptop when he had this issue. We had him connect using his Verizon mifi and he can get to the internet then. He has a Lenovo T420 laptop running Windows 7 64 bit. I checked all his standard TCP/IP settings and everything is set as it should be. Not sure what could be preventing him from getting outside again. Any help would be appreciated.

I checked IP settings and are set to DHCP as they should be with correct DNS servers. I opened up IE and no proxy server is being used. The network icon on the bottom right corner shows connected with internet access although I can't open up pages or ping websites

Best would be to post an unedited output of ipconfig -all of this particular laptop to check further. If the standard gateway is set correctly and other PCs with the same settings can get to the internet it is most probably a firewall issue and probably not the one on the laptop itself but the one running on the border of your network against the internet. But I'd check connectivity with firewall completely disabled on the laptop to be sure on this. Wolfgang

I have turned off the Firewall on the laptop and still see the same issue. I do have a question. Is it possible to Forget a wired network? You know how when you first plug in a cable to a Windows 7 system it will ask you what type of network i.e. Home, Work etc... Is it possible to reset a network to that state again?

Yes, if you delete that Network. If you click on the icon left of one network in Network and Sharing Center, you come to the Set Network Properties page; there you find a link to Merge or delete network locations - from there you can delete each network location stored on this PC. After you delete a network location, it looks as a never accesssed network once you reconnect the PC to this network. Wolfgang
