try the fqdn of the domain. instead of"blah" try "blah.local" (or whatever you've called it)

I tried this and when i put the .local at the end which is exactly what the fqdn is lsc.local, it tells me that it cannot find a domain with that name.. When I try and join the domain by just typing lsc it actually prompts me for a username and password and then it tells me this after typing inthe account with permission to join the domain: An attempt to resolve the DNS name ofa DC in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify that this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain.

Check the "Preferred DNS Server" in the TCP/IP properties of your NIC.(it should be the Domain Controller of your network)
