Well, as opposed to others, I can't get this update to install on my system at all. It just fails with error code 80070026. I've tried downloading the update directly from the KB article and that fails as well. IE beta9 won't install either(hoping that since IE8 has issues, maybe IE9 will take care of that), I'm assuming because there's a pending cricital update. I've run SFC, and everything else I can think of, and my normal, everyday use system comes up clean with no issues. I've never had an issue with an update till now. I've tried various Mr. Fixits on other posts googling around, to no avail. I've restored my system to a Jan 1st backup, and that didn't help either. Any suggestions on what to run or look for?

Ok, ran the tool, and it found two 0 byte mums it was unable to repair. You'll never guess which ones... Unavailable repair files: servicing\packages\Package_3_for_KB2360131~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.3.mum servicing\packages\Package_for_KB979687~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.2.mum servicing\packages\Package_3_for_KB2360131~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.3.cat servicing\packages\Package_for_KB979687~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.2.cat Here's how I fixed it: I copied the two files from my notebook on to a thumbdrive, and then booted my pc into safemode, so I could copy the files over. Once copied, rebooted to normal, and poof, system was able to install KB2482017 with no issues. Question is, what was the "RIGHT" way to do this? Before doing the notebook method, I tried reinstalling (wouldn't let me) / uninstalling (wouldn't let me) the two KBs, and running the SFC, as well as the CheckSUR tool. If I didn't have another Win7 box handy, where or how would you get those mums? Thanks again for helping me out!

How would you normally go about repairing those files, since you can't uninstall the KB to reinstall. Is there a way to force a reinstall of the KB? Or force CheckSur to repair them? (isn't that the purpose of CheckSur?)

I have the same issue and i have the files I need to replace on the target machine. However , in spite of logging in as administrator and in safe mode on the target machine I am denied the ability to overwrite the files. ( or rename/delete for that matter) Only" TrustedInstaller" & "SYSTEM" apparently have the security privileges necessary.... How did you accomplish the file replacing in light of the permissions issue? Many thanks for the help!
