KB2482017 breaks DFS?
I've uninstalled and reinstalled this patch (IE cumulative security) several times to verify the behavior. When it's properly installed, my Win7 clients can no longer map a drive, or access in any other way, any of my DFS sharepoints. Accessing
the actual server share works just fine. Anyone else experience this behavior?

Hello,
I am not sure whether I have the same thing.
After this patch was installed I could no longer access my AC Ryan mediaplayer. I use it as a NAS, with a cable.
More importantly. I still have not solved this problem.
I hope that there is someone who can help us.

Hi,
Do you mean that you can map a drive when you uninstall that patch?
To make it clear, I would like to suggest you try to install this patch and boot into Safe Mode with Networking to confirm this behavior.

Hi Alex,
I have started it in the
Safe Mode with Networking, but still no luck.
I have not been able to access my mediaplayer since tuesday last week.
I have not installed Servicepack 2 yet.
Do you think, this will help?

Hi Lee,
What is the result when you uninstall that patch?
I suggest you try system restore to get back to a previous good time point.
Also, please check the following policy settings:
Navigate to "Local Computer Policy" -> "Security Settings" -> "Local Policies" -> "Security Options". Now look for the entry "Network Security: LAN Manager
Authentication level" and open it. Click on the dropdown menu and select "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".
Apply the settings.
Restart computer and check the result.
Hope it helps.

Hi Alex,
Uninstalling does not work.
Plus, I cannot go back in time, because I have installed SP2 in the meantime.
How can I navigate to there? Where do I start?
Thanks!

Hi,
@ Lee, I would like to know what the SP2 is. What is the operating system you are currently using, Windows 7?
To open Group Policy Editor, you could type
gpedit.msc in start search box.
@ vccwestmatt, try to restart DFS Namespace service to check the result.

Hi Alex,
SP2 means Service Pack 2.
My searchs box gives "no results" for "gpedit.msc".
Mu OS is Vista. Should I upgrade to Win7?
Or should I switch to wireless?

It appeared to be some synergistic effect relating to the DFS cache and this patch.
Once I cleared the DFS cache on the clients:
Dfsutil cache domain flush
Dfsutil cache referral flush
The problem was resolved for good. Prior to doing so, the presence or absence of the patch determined whether or not I could access my DFS targets.

Hi Alex,
I got it working again.

I dunno why, but it worked.
Thanx for your support!
