KB890830
This tool continually downloads to my Vista computer, as many times a day as I choose to allow it. It is always waiting to be installed prior to shut down. The history always says it has installed successfuly. This is very frustrating. Any ideas please. Regards Chas

Strange ! Thats the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, btw. Try to manually download and install it fromMicrosoftand see if it 'installs' and stops the problem. If it doesn't help, try this : Rt Click Computer > Manage > Services > Stop the "Cryptographic Service" and rename the "Catroot2" folder situated in C:\Windows\System32\Catroot to something like say Catroot2X. Reboot. Now run the update/hotfix installer/s again. This action will re-generate a new Catroot2 folder and the updates/hotfixes, should hopefully install OK. Best to create a system restore point first !

Thank you Andy, the manual download seems to have worked for me. Incidentally, should others find this helpful, when I then checked for updates I received an error code 80244022, which was overcome by deleting my browser temporary internet files. Many thanks for your time. Regards Chas
