KB976902 update to Win7/64-bit clobbered my wireless card
My wireless adapter in my laptop shows as "Disabled" and does not respond to the right-click "Enable" command on the Network Connections page in the Control Panel. This happened right after I said OK to a set of MS updates. I was able to uninstall 3 of the 4 updates from 10/27, but the last one identified as KB976902 does not allow me to uninstall. Not only that, but I tried to do a System Recovery/Run as Administrator in Safe Mode, and the system will not restore. I am just a user, not testing Service Pack 1. KB976902 was part of my normal updates. Any ideas about getting KB976902 out of my system?

Hi, Regarding update KB976902, the installation software is the component that handles the installation and the removal of software updates, language packs, optional Windows features, and service packs. You cannot remove this update. Please refer to: Description of the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 installation software feature update To find what the culprit is, please boot into Safe Mode with networking and check if the issue still exists. Meanwhile, you could try to reinstall the wireless driver to check what the result is. I had the KB976902 update yesterday via Windows Update and today my LAN adaptor can't pick up an IP address via DHCP. There are lots of the following errors in the eventlog: Fault bucket , type 0 Event Name: NetworkDiagnosticsFrameworkV3 Response: Not available Cab Id: 0 Problem signature: P1: Microsoft P2: AddressAcquisition [1.0] P3: 2 P4: 0 P5: {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} P6: AddressAcquisition [1.0] P7: {245A9D66-AE9C-4518-A5B4-655752B0A5BD} P8: e1y60x64.sys P9: 10.0.2.2 13/07/2009 P10: Attached files: C:\Windows\System32\NDF\{6B8E8BEE-63B8-4FD7-BEA4-E63C8A181723}-WER-01192011-0835.etl These files may be available here: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\NonCritical_Microsoft_4a1799dddc8825f8cf62e5ec676283e6e0afbedf_cab_04cc1093 Analysis symbol: Rechecking for solution: 0 Report Id: 156d6d7c-23a7-11e0-a1af-0025b3bf5c01 Report Status: 0 e1y60x64.sys is the driver for my Ethernet card (Intel 82567 Gigabit). As this update can't be uninstalled, Microsoft appears to have broken my Win7 x64 installation. Off to see if a system restore will help. Apply this update with caution! Regards Neil

I installed this update on 18.01.2011. My PC is working absolutely fine. It appears to have slowed down a wee bit. May be this is my imagination. I read about this update in the forums and was very much interested about this black-hole. I took a back-up of my C drive with Norton ghost. Then I entered this black-hole. I re-started my PC at least 10 times.Nothing went wrong. I once again validated my Windows 7. It went smoothly, nothing went wrong. My windows showed up to be genuine--as usual. I went around to download Windows 7 SP1 RC1. Again went thru the validation check. Started downloading SP1 RC1. Downloaded only 1%. The file is about 1512 MB. I cannot do this. There is absolutely nothing wrong or scarry about this update. I wonder what will happen if it shows a genuine windows copy to be a pirated one? Regards, K.Ganapathy Anti Piracy Man
