Language pack problem
I have to say that win 7 is one of the best OS's I have run since xp. But, saying that I have ran into a problem that as I have been told should not have happened. Here is the post I put explaining the issue. The good thing is, when we get the RTM I will have to rebuild the system which should correct the issue."I had an application that needed to have the japanese language pack installed. After I had used the app, and no longer needed it, I removed the language pack and disabled the bar. Here is the issue, I know have japanese charactors appearing in every window that displays, I have tried telling windows to reset the fonts, with no change. Infact, Nero, tried to install the japanese version, and even when I selected the english I got a dual language window, with both languages appearing in the text.Is there anything else short of a complete reinstall that can fix this? and, No if I have to restore I will rebuild, too many changes to the system have been made since the activationof the japanese language pack"ThanksGlenn

Hello Glen, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Windows 7 RC.When you said in your post, too many changes to the system have been made since the activationof the japanese language pack, were these software changes or hardware changes? In either case i suspect a registry key that may not be completely uninstalled or corrupted, perhaps because ofshared files with other programs.

Mainly software installs and updates, I am an avid gamer so I keep this system as clean and up to date as possible. I have the only registry cleaner that has a beta on the system a couple of times with no results. Where would the keys pertaining to the language pack installs and uninstalls be located in the hive? Or, do you knowa phrase that would search and only bring up that perticular install?

Hi,did you also set the Regional options of the Control Panel back to the country appropriate, and removed the Japanese keyboard layouts? The system still thinks you live in Japan, didn't you use another proxy or something?Ciao,Sabine---Just a HP Mini Netbook running Windows 7 RC ---

I thought I had, but when I went through eveything, the location was still set to japan. I don't think this should have happened, the uninstall or windows at least should have warned me that not all settings were correct. To allowan uninstalled language to remain viable, when I uninstalled it is not correct. All that it would have taken would been a warning of files still in use, this would have prompted me to look at all the settings before it could uninstall the program, I mean any other program installed in windows, either refuses to uninstall or gives some kind of message when the program still has files that are running or being used by the OS during the uninstall. Why then does this comformed uninstall progress NOT work with the language packs??????Thanks to all that helped me find the actuall issue, another program that is a part of windows Not conforming to THIER own policies and proceedures for uninstallation.Glenn
