Laptop with Windows 7 not booting
Hi all, I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop with a Windows 7 Professional and just now I had this problem: 1. Turned on 2. Automatic updates installed 3. BSOD - I think it was memory management... not sure anymore 4. Forced (manually) restart 5. Laptop won't start. I don't hear the HD, cooler won't start, nothing appears on the screen. Just the lights of power, numlock, scrolllock and capslock turn on... with the last one (capslock) blinking. 6. these three lights turn off after approximately 30 seconds Tried to take the batteries off and hold power button, take memory out, put it on again... As nothing appears on the screen, I can't go to safe mode, press F8, Del, Esc or anything at all... Can't open dvd tray... please help...

I don't think it's an OS issue. If you can't get into the BIOS setup, it must be a hardware problem.A little poking around at support.dell.com suggests that it's a memory issue.I take it that "take memory out" means that you reseated a DIMM. THe 1500 also has an internal DIMM socket, that requires removing the keyboard to access. Did you play with that one?Worst case: the motherboard has failed. Is it still under warranty? (How old is it? Two years?)Sorry that I can't be more helpful.

It's just a ____ of a coincidence, then? Just after the windows update... I'll try to reseat the internal DIMM later and then post the results. thanks It's about two years old.. no warranty

On the next day I tried to push the power button and voila! As nothing happened, it turned on... Using it now and it's already been 7 days without any error... Weird...
