Local area connection doesnt have a valid IP configuration
So i have looked at all of these replies that are identical to my question but none of them have worked for me. I tried everything pretty much the roll back drivers thing, stopping the bonjour, everything i think there were some that i didnt know how to do i am not a computer wiz and dont know how to find ip addresses or unblock them and stuff like that so step by step for dummies would be my level haha So I just bought a new netbook gateway and i am in college not connecting to a modem or router just a ethernet plug from the wall to my computer and it has worked with my other laptop before i got this one and it didnt work from day one i have had it for about 2 days now and its not the cord, my roommate is plugged to the same box and it works just fine for her so its something with windows 7 im guessing idk please help i dont know what more i can do..... :(

As you say you lack the basic rouble shooting skills you should ask around the collage and find someone who has the skills to help you. This is not the place to come for a step by step walk thru. The network info is lacking:I can only ASSUME that this the collage network and that they are using DHCP to assign IP's to the students. You will need to confirm this.As you know the cable / switch / hub are good (you say that the roomate can use the same cable / port.. right)The netbook is the place to start.fisrt thing to do is post an ipconfig /all here.we need to know the nic make / model / firmwarewe need to know if it is enabled or disabledwe need to know about any firewall / security software installed.and that is a start.

Is it using a dial up, adsl as in broadband etc? If you're not sure, check with your roommate. Depending how you're connecting, say if is through router you might need to input and do some configuration on the router page. Same goes to if you're using a dial up or adsl if you're connecting directly through a modem, as your ISP might need you to input the username or password given to you by themDo a ipconfig /all and post back the IPv 4 address

I am not using a dial up its a ethernet connection from the wall to my computer, maybe dsl im not sure but its high speed\, no modems or anything, thats all i know about that and i did a ipconfiguration thing and this is the address for the one that's not working the ethernet- 70-5A-B6-04-C8-E3 DHCP-enabled What you asked for the IPv4 address is under the wireless network connection which works fine so idk but here it is 129.24.255.27 We dont have any assigned ips or anything you just plug it in and wa la your online OH and i also forgot to mention that I had previously connected to the internet using the ethernet cable at my house which worked. i forgot about that sorry. I do have a firewall both windows and through norton and i tried turning both of them off. but there was a message that said norton was controlling my windows firewall, but i did turn those off both so that didnt work and i also stopped the bonjour application. i have a gateway netbook, intel atom, windows 7 starter, model is NAV50 and need to know if what is enabled/disabled??

you need to see the college IT staff or find a techie around schoolYou did not do as I told youyou need to post the ipconfig /all info here us, do not clean it and post what you think we need.If the cables are know to be good and the network jack is fine on the netbook, you have issue with the switch the college is using.

Hi, I would like to suggest the following: 1. When the issue occurs, is the light of the network adapter still flashing? 2. Check the network icon in the notification area, is there a red "X" or a yellow exclamation mark on it? 3. Right click on the network icon in the notification area and click Troubleshoot Problems to check the issue. Meanwhile, I would like to share the following with you for your reference: Troubleshoot network connection problems Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
